Welcome to the Nelson Integrated Health Forum

Integrative medicine focuses on health and well-being through combining orthodox and complementary therapies. People are increasingly choosing a combination of both western medicine and complementary therapies when faced with health issues or when wanting to improve their general health.

Combining western medicine with complementary therapies can achieve an enhanced outcome which cannot be achieved by a single modality alone. It provides a more holistic approach to healthcare.

This forum is for all working in healthcare, including those trained in western medicine or who practice in a complementary therapy, who have an interest in integrated medicine or wish to learn more about other modalities. Many practitioners now recognise that health is multi-dimensional, i.e. mental, emotional, physical and spiritual and the integrated approach acknowledges this. It commonly involves not only collaboration between different practitioners but also between the practitioners and the client.

The first meeting of the this forum was held in May 2007 with a talk given by Dr. Tim Ewer on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Other presentations were given by a naturopath, physiotherapist, homeopath, acupuncturist, bioresonance therapist, holistic pulsing therapist and cranial sacral therapist. We have also had a public lecture  given by Alison White on Safe Food. The meetings also provide an opportunity for practitioners to network and find out what else is happening within the health field within the region.

Collectively, the group also requests what topics they would like presented and individuals who would like to present about their own field of expertise are encouraged to do so.

Meetings normally occur monthly, on a date that suits the guest lecturer. We meet from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.  There is no membership fee to attend them but a  $5 donation per meeting is appreciated to cover expenses.
